Understanding Learning Differences: How Families Can Better Support Their Children — Gettysburg Schools news

aired; November 5, 2026 Every child learns differently, but when schoolwork becomes a struggle, it can be hard for families to know what kind of support their child needs. On The Spark, we’ll talk with Heather Strunk, Head of School at The Janus School in Mount Joy, about how parents and educators can better understand a child s individual strengths and challenges. We’ll explore why academic struggles are sometimes mistaken for a lack of effort or motivation and how listening to children can reveal challenges that grades alone may not show. We’ll also discuss questions parents can ask teachers, when additional evaluation or support may be helpful and how families and educators can work together. Drawing on The Janus School’s work with students who have learning differences, Strunk will share ways to help children build confidence, become more independent and learn to advocate for their own needs.
